KIELDER OBSERVATORY

KIELDER OBSERVATORY - Pauline Woolley 2014

Like a boat moored in a sea of trees, Kielder Observatory is nestled in an area of beauty.  White domes have been replaced with an architectural design fit for it's environment.  No blot on the landscape here.
I would love to go back and visit when the sun has disappeared at the end of the day and the skies are crisp and clear. However for this visit, a talk about our nearest star, the sun satisfied the craving.

With the Sun as an aesthetic vehicle for the making of my artwork, it was really interesting to sit and listen to an expert whilst at the same glancing at real time footage of the sun on a large flat screen monitor that was connected to one of the telescopes.  One moment it was there and the next cloud would eerily pass over blocking it from our view.  Great stuff.
